The Knox County KCEOC opened apartments for homeless youth ages 18-24, to fill the need in their area. The shelter is named Ryan’s Place, in memory of 19-year-old Ryan White, who battled homelessness up until his death in 2017, in car accident. Staff say they hope the new crisis center can provide a safe space for others, as KCEOC did for White. The KCEOC says they are asking for donations to fill the four apartments and help the eight residents at the center. They are asking for everyday items like toilet paper, paper towels, and hygiene products, to keep up with the continual need. The apartments are funded through the Kentucky Housing Corporation and HUD.
