WYMT-TV is reporting a Lynn Camp teacher filed a federal lawsuit last week against the Knox County Board of Education. Melinda Abner of Laurel County started working as a special education teacher at Lynn Camp High School in 2013. According to the lawsuit, Lynn Camp High School Principal Anthony Pennington allegedly repeatedly sexually harassed Abner. Abner claims after she repeatedly rejected Pennington’s advances he retaliated against her by threatening her job, monitoring her actions, assigning her difficult and disproportionate amounts of work and refused to accommodate her disabilities. Abner says in the lawsuit she reported everything in an email to Superintendent Kelly Sprinkles, but he allegedly dismissed the report. Abner has requested a trial by jury. Knox County Public Schools says at this time they are unable to provide comment on the matter as it involves a current employee.
