Kentucky State Police say an arrest had been made in a Knox County murder case from 2017. Investigators say the body of 33-year-old Charles Phipps of Kay Jay was found inside his home on May 11, 2017. They said his body was burned and an autopsy showed he had what was believed to be a gunshot wound on his torso. Troopers said on October 31, 2018, they received new information saying 60-year-old Paul Phipps had shot and killed his son. They said Paul walked over to his son’s home next door to get his 9mm pistol when a physical altercation occurred. Troopers said 15 to 20 minutes later multiple gunshots were heard and then Paul walked back to his home and said his son’s house was filled with fire and smoke. Troopers said on November 5 they found a severely burned 9mm pistol in Paul’s bedroom closet. Paul was charged with murder and taken to the Knox County Detention Center. The case is still under investigation.
