The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called out to a domestic complaint off Silo Road north of London. Investigators learned 51-year-old Brett D. Larson was arguing with his girlfriend 43-year-old Carrie Beth Morgan. During the argument, Morgan’s nine-year-old daughter went outside because she heard the adults arguing and did not know what would happen. Deputies say while the girl was outside, Larson told her he was locking her outside if she did not come back in. Officers say it was 35 degrees outside at the time and the child wore a short-sleeve shirt and no jacket. The child then went to a neighbor’s home and asked for help. Deputies said the neighbor called the nine-year-old’s grandfather. Police say Larson and Morgan refused to come out of their home and it took two hours of negotiation to convince them to comply. Both were arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child 12 or younger. During the investigation deputies found multiple weapons inside the home and a large amount of ammo. The child was released to other family members by Social Services. Kentucky State Police assisted at the scene.
