Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies were dispatched to a complaint about a woman passed out in a vehicle on the side of the road. They found Melisha Harris of Manchester, slumped over the steering wheel on Ky 30. The car wasn’t running but was in gear. On Harris’ lap was an 18-month-old with only a shirt and diaper on. Deputies said the infant was shaking and cold and was starting to turn blue. The child was taken away in an ambulance. The child’s internal temperature was 95.1°. Deputies said the temperature outside the car was in the low 30s when they found the child. When deputies woke Harris up she began fighting them. Harris was charged with DUI, criminal abuse and other charges. She was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
