Police have released more details on a police chase out of Whitley County where shots were fired. Kentucky State Police and Tennessee Highway Patrol worked together to stop a man they say was shooting at other vehicles on I-75. Whitley County deputies began chasing a Ford F150 southbound on I-75. The driver of the truck, 39 year old Stephen George Williams of Texas, allegedly shot multiple times at other vehicles before police gave chase. Tennessee authorities took over the pursuit when Williams crossed the border on I-75. Troopers say Williams fired his gun in a “reckless manner” and had a woman passenger held against her will at gunpoint. When the chase reached the 134-mile marker, Williams tried to pass another vehicle and hit it in the process. Williams’ truck crashed into the cable barrier and stopped. Troopers arrested Williams and took him to the Campbell County Detention Facility. The kidnapped passenger was identified as Williams’ mother and was taken to LaFollette Medical Center. She was then moved to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for additional treatment. The driver in the vehicle Williams’ truck hit was not injured.
