There are more than 1,000 bridges across Kentucky along critical areas of transportation that are in poor condition. Over the next six years, the Kentucky Transportation Department’s Bridging Kentucky program is working to repair those bridges. More than 500 bridges in Eastern Kentucky were on the list of bridges that were in dire need of repair. Many of the bridges under repairs have been unsafe and not driveable for schools buses and emergency vehicles. Recently officials in Clay County declared a state of emergency and weight limits reduced due to declining bridges. You can find all the bridges that Bridging Kentucky is focusing on by clicking here.
