Volunteers from Whitley County say they are fighting negative stereotypes about their area, by highlighting the positive aspects of their county. Highlights they turned into a social media initiative called #WhyWhitley, prompting people to post positive things about Whitley County. Revitalization is the topic on their minds. One of the ways that is being done is through the four murals currently being implemented with the collaboration with #WhyWhitley and the UK Art Extension office. The #WhyWhitley volunteers will be putting together their first festival to celebrate local art, artists, food, and music this fall. On October 6th in their designated park downtown, they will have their first festival, named the “River Fog Festival.” They are also working on a new project to highlight people who are making or have made positive changes in Whitley County they call the Whitley County Trailblazers campaign.
