Officials with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System have worked on acquiring grants for the last year and a half that would create new programs at Hazard Community and Technical College, Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, and Big Sandy Community and Technical College. Mechanics, robotics, and electronics are just a few of the new programs that will be offered. These advanced manufacturing training programs are the result of conversations with industries already here in the region. Officials say 100% of the training that will be provided in this grant will be based on the recommendations of current manufacturers and also manufacturers who are moving into the region and who are looking at the region. The $2.5 million grant is being awarded through the Economic Development Administration. School officials believe the programs that will be created with the grant money will create 261 jobs for the students who complete the training.
