Laurel County Sheriff John Root says a police chase that started in Laurel County ended in Clay County. Deputies were called out on a report of a suspicious vehicle at a cemetery near Old Way Road in London. When they arrived in the area and approached the driver, Matthew Powell, sped off towards Clay County on Hwy. 472. Multiple law enforcement agencies pursued the man for about 20 miles. Deputies say the man drove at speeds of over 110 mph and passed multiple vehicles on double yellow lines. The chase ended in Manchester where police say Powell wrecked his vehicle while making a turn. An officer chased Powell down a hillside, where they both fell before the man was caught. Police found a syringe and meth in his possession. Powell was taken to the hospital, then to the Laurel County Detention Center. He is charged with fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment of a police officer, drug paraphernalia possession and multiple traffic violations.
