The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says deputies found a man who they say intentionally hit a man with his truck. Investigators say a man was walking along Callebs Creek Road in the Hinkle community of Knox County when 33 year old Eric Smith hit him. They say Smith intentionally drove his truck into a ditch to hit the man. Police say a woman in the truck with Smith got out to check on the man who had been hit. When deputies arrived they say Smith had left the scene. Officers pinged his phone to a wooded area near Alex Creek where they found him in his truck. Deputies say as they approached Smith he sped away. When he lost control and crashed, he escaped on foot. Deputies say Smith was arrested around 3:00 p.m. Monday at a home in the Stinking Creek community. He was charged with assault with a motor vehicle, attempted murder and fleeing and evading police. He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. Police say the man who was hit was flown to UT Medical Center with a broken neck and back.
