Kentucky’s Energy and Environment Cabinet has recognized 42 water treatment plants with optimization awards. It is part of a program that encourages drinking water systems to go beyond regulatory requirements. The program emphasizes reducing cloudiness in drinking water. Four water districts in Eastern Kentucky got gold seal recognition for achieving goals 100 percent of the time. The districts include Laurel County Water District No. 2, Barbourville Water and Electric, Jackson County Water Association and McCreary County Water District Plant B.
