The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says a false assault call ended up getting the caller arrested after he assaulted responding deputies. Officers were dispatched to Powers Lane where an assault was reported. Once deputies got to the scene they encountered 48 year old Anthony Coffey, who had reported the assault. The investigation, however, revealed the claim was bogus and that Coffey was under the influence. Police say Coffey then started causing a disturbance and tried to assault the deputies. After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody and charged with falsely reporting an incident, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public intoxication. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
