Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies were called out after Laurel 911 dispatchers reported someone had called 911 from a cell phone and the line was left open. Dispatchers say they could hear a heated argument between a man and woman and at one point, the man threatened to kill the woman and cut her tongue out. Dispatchers were able to use the cell call to find their location on White Oak Road. Deputies arrived to find a car there with the passenger side door open and a woman trying to get out. When deputies tried to pull the vehicle over the driver sped up, but stopped after a short distance. During the investigation deputies found that the man, 43 year old Shawn Kurt Mulrenin, had allegedly struck the woman in the head several times. Deputies also found Mulrenin in possession of a pipe used to smoke meth. Mulrenin was arrested and charged with assault – domestic violence, unlawful imprisonment, fleeing or evading police and several others. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
