The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called out to a home off Court Road on a complaint that a man was outside shooting a gun recklessly. When officers arrived they found 42-year-old Brian Smith there with a gun yelling and creating a disturbance. Police ordered him to drop the weapon and had to physically take him into custody. When they located neighbors who were hiding they told officers Smith had shot in their direction and at horses in a nearby field. It was later determined Smith was a convicted felon. He was charged with several offenses including possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and public intoxication. Smith was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
