The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says a mother and grandmother were arrested after a toddler was found walking alone near a road with only a diaper on. Deputies say a passerby, Brad Lefevers, saw the child on Piney Hill Road while on his way to work. Lefevers pulled off, grabbed the baby and called police. At the time, deputies could not find the child’s parents or a caregiver. At the hospital, investigators say they found large bruises on the child. They later discovered that the mother and grandmother allegedly hit the two-year-old with a belt. Investigators charged 24 year old Angelica Mason with criminal abuse. 45 year old Bobbi Cross faces a wanton endangerment charge. Deputies say Mason and Cross had last seen the child inside their home around 5:30 a.m. They say Mason and Cross did not know the child was missing.
