Tuesday is primary election day in Kentucky and here in Laurel County there are some interesting races to be decided. The offices creating the most buzz is the County Clerk’s race where longtime Clerk Dean Johnson is being challenged by Joe Tony Brown, the sheriff’s race where current sheriff John Root is challenged by his cousin Millard Root and the PVA race where current PVA Joyce Garland Parker is challenged by Christina McCreary. Other local offices up for grabs include magistrates and constables. The Jailer and County Judge are unopposed and the city races will be decided in November. We will also be electing a judge to the supreme court. Judges Dan Ballou, Debra Hembree Lambert and David Tapp are competing for that office. Also, Congressman Hal Rogers is challenged by Gerardo Serrano and the Representative races are on the ballot. Everyone is urged to carve out some time to swing by their polling places and vote. Then be sure and tune in to Kool Gold 96.7 for election night coverage live from the Laurel County Courthouse starting at 7pm.
