Former UK basketball star and state agriculture commissioner Richie Farmer avoided jail time after he pleaded guilty to DUI earlier this month. London police arrested Farmer on a DUI charge in March after they received a call from someone saying someone was driving erratically. Police said he admitted to taking pain relievers and muscle relaxers prior to getting behind the wheel. He refused to take a blood test. Farmer was sentenced to 30 days in jail but avoided jail time by agreeing not to receive any violations for the next two years. Farmer is also required to complete an alcohol driver education program. In 2013, Farmer pleaded guilty in federal court to corruption charges. Farmer allegedly misappropriated state government resources while serving as state agricultural commissioner when he had state workers build him a basketball court at his house. He served a 27-month federal sentence for the corruption charges.
