Pension rallies continue as teachers from 18 schools in Laurel County participated in walk-ins Thursday morning to protest Senate Bill 1 (SB1), including those from North Laurel High. After Governor Bevin’s interview with WLVC, many local teachers are expressing anger over his point of view. Stephanie Winkler, Kentucky Education Association’s President, spoke with WLVC not long after, stating a rebuttal to Bevin’s comments. She said Bevin used phrases like selfish, shortsighted, misinformed, and ignorant to describe her and her colleagues. Brittany Lewis, an English teacher, says they chose to “walk-in” instead of “walking-out” to show their students it is important to stand up for what they deserve.
