The Williamsburg Police Department says a six-year-old was airlifted to a Knoxville hosptial following a wreck involving a Whitley County deputy. Police say the wreck happened at the intersection of Highway 25 and Carl Croley Road. Crash investigators say the deputy was responding to a call and was making a turn when a driver traveling in the opposite direction didn’t see the deputy making a turn and crashed into his cruiser. Investigators say the rain slickened roads played a role in the crash. The deputy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He has since been released. The six-year-old was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center after suffering serious injuries. No other vehicle occupants were seriously hurt in the wreck.
