The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office says deputies noticed a vehicle driven by a man they knew had an outstanding warrant in a gas station parking lot. When they approached the vehicle, the driver backed out and fled at a high rate of speed. Police chased after him and noticed a bag being thrown out the passenger window. The pursuit ended when the vehicle wrecked near the entrance to the Tattersall community. As police got out of the cruiser they noticed a 9mm handgun being thrown from the drivers side window. The driver, 29 year old Brandon E. Cole of Williamsburg and the passenger, 27 year old William M. Mitchell of Corbin, were arrested. Police retrieved the discarded bag which contained a crystal substance believed to be “ice” methamphetamine. Police later reported there was over a pound of “ice” in the bag, which is estimated to have a street value of over $70,000. Located with the bag was a bank-style bag containing over $7,000. Officers meth and needles inside the vehicle as well. Both were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
