Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell says they received a call from a man reporting he caught a man in one of his vehicles. The caller said he pursued the man and that the man broke into Watson Chapel Church by breaking a window. Deputies along with a Williamsburg K9 Officer went there. In addition to the broken window, damage was done to the door to the fellowship hall of the church. The investigation and search lead to 29 year old Thomas M. Helbig. Officers found him in a Cumberland Heights apartment. Inside the apartment police found discarded clothing matching the caller’s description. Helbig was arrested and charged with burglary, disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Helbig also had a warrant out on him for failure to appear. He was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
