State and county officials recently surveyed land in Eastern Kentucky for areas to place solar panels. Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes tagged along with company officials surveying the land. She said she was excited to show off what is best about this state. Beyond our people, she said it is our land. The solar energy company is primarily looking at land in Harlan, Perry, and Knott County. Officials say solar panels coming to the area would add jobs and lower power bills and hopefully the renewable energy source would eventually attract large companies to the area. The surveyed areas are between 100 to 500 acres. The company will decide by the end of 2018 if it decides to come to the commonwealth.
