More information is released on a fire reported last week at the Clay County Detention Center. Jailers say two inmates are charged with inciting a riot. Around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, smoke alarms started going off at the jail. Police, jail workers, and firefighters all responded to the fire. Jailer Linda Smallwood said inmates set fire to trash in the shower area of a cell. She says they believe they started it with an e-cigarette wire. Investigators say James Lawson started the fire which was quickly put out. Lawson is charged with 351 counts of wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, criminal mischief, arson and inciting a riot. Randall Collett was charged with inciting a riot for stopping a toilet and breaking a showerhead. Jailers say Collett was trying to flood the cell. No one was hurt in the incident. Smallwood said she does have an evacuation plan but did not have to use it. Collett and Lawson were placed in holding cells.
